Working Together for Change

August 28, 20261 min read

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” - Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Wisdom recognizes that significant challenges require collaborative solutions. Whether addressing poverty, educational inequality, or community development, we accomplish far more working together than we ever could individually. This principle applies to both practical projects and spiritual growth.

The early church provides a powerful example of collaboration in action. They pooled their resources to care for those in need, shared their diverse gifts to strengthen the community, and supported one another through persecution and hardship. Their unity created a powerful witness that drew others to faith.

Effective collaboration requires humility to recognize that we don’t have all the answers or resources needed to solve complex problems. It means being willing to share credit, compromise on methods, and subordinate our own preferences to the greater good of the mission.

Wisdom also teaches us to seek out partners who bring different perspectives, skills, and connections to our shared work. Diversity in collaboration leads to more creative solutions and broader community support for our efforts.

This principle extends to interfaith and secular partnerships when working on issues of common concern. While maintaining our Christian identity and values, we can work alongside others who share our commitment to justice, mercy, and human dignity.

Prayer:

God, help us work collaboratively to address the challenges in our communities. Give us humility to share leadership and wisdom to build effective partnerships for positive change. Amen.
