Speaking Life Into Others
“The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” - Proverbs 12:18
Our words carry tremendous power to either build up or tear down the people around us. In classrooms, workplaces, and homes across our communities, people are desperately hungry for words of encouragement, hope, and affirmation. Wisdom teaches us to use our speech as a tool for healing rather than harm.
The wise person understands that behind every difficult behavior or harsh word is often a hurting heart. When someone lashes out, wisdom responds with patience rather than retaliation. When someone struggles, wisdom offers encouragement rather than criticism. When someone succeeds, wisdom celebrates rather than competes.
This doesn’t mean we avoid difficult conversations or fail to address problems. Rather, it means we approach these situations with the goal of restoration and healing. We speak truth in love, offer correction with compassion, and always look for ways to build others up rather than tear them down.
In your interactions today, consciously choose words that bring healing. Compliment someone’s character, encourage someone who’s struggling, or simply listen with compassion to someone who needs to be heard. Your wise words might be exactly what someone needs to keep going.
Prayer:
God, help our words bring healing rather than harm. Give us wisdom to speak life into others and to be instruments of Your love through our speech. May our tongues be tools of encouragement. Amen.
