Sitting At Jesus' Feet

“But the Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.’” - Luke 10:41-42

In our achievement-oriented culture, we often measure success by how busy we are, how many tasks we complete, or how much we accomplish. But Jesus teaches us through Mary and Martha that the most important learning happens when we slow down and prioritize time with Him.

Mary understood something profound: knowledge without relationship is empty. While Martha busied herself with preparations, Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet and absorb His teachings. This wasn’t laziness; it was wisdom. She recognized that everything else in life flows from our connection with Christ.

As we navigate the demands of education, career, and daily responsibilities, we must remember that our relationship with Jesus is not an addition to our schedule but the foundation that supports everything else. When we prioritize time with Him, He provides the wisdom, strength, and perspective we need for every challenge.

The world tells us that constant activity equals productivity, but Jesus calls us to a different rhythm. He invites us to find rest in His presence, to learn from His example, and to discover that true success comes not from what we achieve but from who we become in relationship with Him.

Prayer:

Jesus, help us choose the better part. In our busy lives, create space for us to sit at Your feet and learn from You. Teach us that relationship with You is more valuable than any earthly achievement. Amen.
