Gratitude As The Foundation
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Gratitude is both the foundation and the fruit of contentment. Paul doesn’t say to give thanks for all circumstances, but in all circumstances.
Even in difficult situations, we can find reasons to thank God for his presence, his faithfulness, and his promises.
This practice rewires our hearts to see God’s goodness even in challenging seasons.
Gratitude becomes a powerful force for justice when it moves us beyond ourselves. As we recognize how God has blessed us, we’re compelled to share those blessings with others.
Grateful hearts are generous hearts, and generous hearts work for a world where everyone has reason to be thankful.
Start or continue a gratitude practice this week. Each day, identify three things you’re thankful for, including at least one that relates to how God has equipped you to serve others.
Prayer:
Lord, cultivate grateful hearts within us. Help us to see your goodness in every circumstance and let our gratitude overflow into generous service to others. Amen.
