God's Faithful Provision

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” - Matthew 6:31-33

Jesus addresses the root of discontentment: worry about our basic needs. He doesn’t dismiss these concerns as unimportant but redirects our focus to what matters most.

When we seek God’s kingdom and righteousness first, we align ourselves with his purposes and trust his provision.

This doesn’t mean we become passive, but that our actions flow from faith rather than fear.

Seeking God’s kingdom includes working for justice and equity. When we see systemic poverty and inequality, we don’t simply accept it as God’s will.

Instead, we work to create systems that reflect God’s heart for the marginalized while trusting that our own needs will be met as we serve his purposes.

Examine your priorities this week. Are you seeking God’s kingdom first, or are you primarily focused on meeting your own needs?

Consider one way you can prioritize justice work while trusting God’s provision.

Lord, help us seek your kingdom and righteousness first. Give us faith to trust your provision as we work for justice and serve others in need. Amen.
