Contentment Builds Stable Families

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” - Joshua 24:15

Families built on contentment in God create environments of stability and peace. When parents are content in Christ, they don’t pressure their children to meet their unmet needs or live out their unfulfilled dreams.

Children in such homes feel free to develop their own identities and callings.

Content families model gratitude, generosity, and trust in God’s provision.

They face challenges together without panic because their security rests in God rather than in circumstances.

This creates a legacy of faith that can impact generations.

Consider how your contentment (or discontentment) affects your family relationships. Practice modeling gratitude and trust in God’s provision for your household, whether you’re a parent, child, or extended family member.

Prayer:

Lord, help us create homes built on contentment in you. Let our families be places of peace, gratitude, and trust where everyone can flourish in their unique calling. Amen.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Morehouse College (1995), a Master of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School (1998), and both a Master of Philosophy in Religion (2002) and a Ph.D. in New Testament and Early Christianity (2006) from Columbia University. Since February 2004, he has faithfully served as Senior Pastor of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, Maryland. Dr. Coates also extends his ministry beyond the pulpit as host of No Limits with Pastor Delman, a weekly broadcast ministry reaching audiences with messages of faith, hope, and transformation.
